- W2577387525 abstract "In this paper we present a novel algorithm to predict the coverage area of pilot channel, which can aid the RF optimization of WCDMA wireless networks. This algorithm exploits a radio propagation model without 3-Dimension digital map and inversion technique to reconstruct the median strength distribution of pilot signals in a cell with few measured data. Based on this distribution, we can determine the main coverage area of pilot channel. We will show that our algorithm is accurate and fast enough to predict emciently the coverage area which is one of the key task in the optimization process of WCDMA nehvorks. I. INTRODUCTION The overall objective of 3G systems is to provide an anytime-anywhere, seamless operation of mobile terminals globally. Wireless networks are designed for both coverage and capacity requirements. Some common requirements for quality are bit error rate (BER) and frame error rate (FER) (I), which are limited by Ec and Ec/lo of the cell from pilot channel in WCDMA networks. Ec that is total power received from Base Station (BS) pilot channel plays an important role in the signal coverage of the cell, while E& acts a vital part in deciding the parameters of cell Handoff (HO) (Z). So we will have a clear impression on cell coverage through predicting Ec of pilot channel. In this paper, we developed a new pilot channel coverage prediction method. This basic idea is to extract terrain and building effects on propagation loss from measured data, which is obtained through drive test along carefully designed routes. The measured data is from E6455C of Agilent Company in Guangdong of China, which is considered to contain the integral of propagation loss factor along the equivalent ray path from the base-station transmitter to the mobile receive. This enables us to convert the problem of pilot channel to solve an integral equation. With all its advantages, this new type of prediction algorithm is expected to provide pilot channel coverage predictions with accuracy high enough to meet practical needs in WCDMA networks engineering and optimization. The paper is organized as follows: Section 2 presents measurement procedure and data preprocessing. In Section 3 details on propagation model. Section 4 describes the prediction algorithm. Finally, Section 5 discusses some possible applications of algorithm and the conclusions are given." @default.
