- W2584103479 abstract "A pixelated system is a means of high speed data transfer through point to point optical wireless channels. For pixelated communication, spatial orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation is used to encode large volumes of data. Two derivatives of spatial OFDM termed as spatial asymmetrically clipped optical OFDM (SACO-OFDM) and spatial DC biased optical OFDM (SDCO-OFDM) have been reported in a number of recent research papers. However, SACO-OFDM and SDCO-OFDM have been studied in the literature only for average power limited channels. Previous studies report that SDCO-OFDM with an optimum bias has only slightly better power efficiency when considering average power as the limiting factor. In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performances of SACO-OFDM and SDCO-OFDM are compared, for the first time, assuming peak power rather than average power as the transmission side constraint. The study is carried out in the joint presence of different practical impairments including defocus, vignetting, misalignment and channel noise. Simulation results indicate that when the transmitted peak power is the limiting factor, SDCO-OFDM with an optimum bias shows significantly better performance than SACO-OFDM." @default.
