- W2586959606 abstract "Intra-luminal hyperplasia represents the most common cause of luminal restenosis of conventional metal stents and leads to the failure of ureteral stenting. The Drug Eluting Stents (DESs) and Coated Metallic Stents (CMSs) have been introduced in an attempt to minimize the lumen re-stenosis due to the intra-luminal hyperplasia. The favorable experience with DESs in the management of neo-intimal hyperplasia of the arteries motivated the urological research to evaluate the DESs in the urinary tract. Nevertheless, the experience of DESs in urology is limited to experimental studies. The CMSs aim to prevent the development of hyperplastic tissue through their struts and consequently reduce the incidence of luminal re-stenosis. The initial experience with CMSs, which were designed for vascular use, was unfavorable. Recently, specially designed CMSs for use in the urinary tract showed promising results. Further investigation would establish the use the DESs and CMSs in the urological practice." @default.
