The objectiveis to smooth the code pseudoranges and push the accuracyof the code-based absolute positioning in a single-receiverautonomous mode in urban areas. It is shown that theproposed Doppler-smoothing of the code pseudorangestechnique offers a modest improvement and is more robustand effective than that of the traditional measurementdomain carrier-smoothed-code Hatch filter in difficultenvironments.While carrier tracking is continuous and free fromcycle slips, the Hatch filter with an optimal smoothingwindow width can effectively suppress receiver noise andshort-term multipath noise on code pseudoranges. However,the effectiveness of the Hatch filter is limited in urbanareas and difficult environments, because carrier-phasemeasurements deteriorate easily and substantially due toblockages and foliage and suffer from discontinuities, cycleslips contamination and other measurement anomaliesin such unfavourable environments. On the other hand,a receiver can generate Doppler shift measurements withcentimetre-level precision as long as a signal is present.By taking advantage of the availability and the precisionof raw Doppler measurements to ‘average out’ the codepseudorange noise, our early experimental results indicatethat the technique improves the positioning accuracy evenwhen the traditional measurement domain Hatch filterfails." @default.
