- W2592487071 abstract "Activation of the innate immune response is a conserved response upon repeat exposure to endogenous and exogenous danger signals. These responses can therefore be broadly considered through a relatively concise set of core functions and effector molecules. It is these elements that form the focus of this section. Here, I provide a basic introduction to the major types of cytokine secreted in response to stimulation of the innate immune system; introduce acute phase proteins and the nature of the acute phase response; provide an overview of a number of the key enzymatic cascades involved in the innate immune response; and discuss the major types of cell death than can result from innate immune activation. These include apoptosis, necrosis, necroptosis, and pyroptosis. Together this section provides a broad overview of the major innate immune effector mechanisms and the cellular outputs that are required to initiate and activate them." @default.
