- W2592602492 abstract "1. The Ca++-, Mg++-, Na+- and K+-concentrations and also the pH-value are analysed in “kolks“, “flarks” and in the subsoil water of the „Schwarze Moor” in the Rhön-Mountain. The concentrations of the cations fluctuate more than it is known up to this time in Central European bogs. 2. Low and high concentrations of the electrolyts may appear according to the different conditions of wheather and cation exchange in the Sphagnum-plants at any time within the period investigated. An annual periodical is not to be seen. 3. The same amount of rain causes different concentrations of cations in the investigated areas according to the capacity and cation adsorption of the Sphagnum-plants. 4. The cation adsorption and the cation exchange of living Sphagnum-mosses are confirmed by measurements under natural conditions. There are great differences in the concentrations of cations in the neighbourhood of Sphagnum-mosses, in the rich water between Sphagnum-plants and the concentrated solution pressed out of Sphagnum-plants. Cations are also increased in the heads of “bultforming” Sphagnum-mosses. 5. It is significant for the ecology of the bogs that the Sphagnum-mosses are able to store more cations in their heads than they need for nutrition. Besides of this the Sphagnum-mosses lower the pH-value permanently by cation exchange. 6. The changing concentrations in bog water are on the one hand the result of weather and on the other hand the result of cation exchange and wash out of accumulated cations of Sphagnum-mosess." @default.
