(1) The WELL-KNOWN STUDY by Ingemar During on Aristotle (2) almost universally considered as fundamental work; maybe, along with Jaeger's, it most significant complete monograph (3) about Stagirite. During in turn, in his Bibliography, points to essay by Wolfgang Wieland about Aristotle's Physics (4) as to of most important among contributions to Aristotelian (5) Such an authority, obliges us to consider very carefully Wieland's views. Now, in introduction to his book, Wieland states that chapter dedicated by Hegel to Aristotle, in Vorlesungen uber die Geschichte der Philosophie, is best Aristotelian representation that we have nowadays, though, in note 21, he partially rectifies this statement, holding what follows: Schelling, too, in his later work, gives interpretations of single Aristotelian treatises, which overtake, in speculative power, even Hegelian representation ... Schelling's Aristotelian interpretations are in direct connection with treatment of specific systematical problems. Therefore they lack external coherency which characterizes Hegelian interpretation. This explains why Schelling's Aristotelian interpretations have had a scarcely considerable influx on philosophical historiography. (6) If that so, want of significant contributions about Schelling's Aristotelian interpretations surprising. (7) This article offers itself as an attempt to spur development of this chapter of Schelling's studies. The task under this perspective twofold: on one hand, to examine what Schelling says about Aristotle's philosophy; on other hand, to confer to thesis, drawn through that analysis, systematic coherency that Wieland feels it lacks. This way, twofold will be also achievement from a hermeneutic viewpoint: for Aristotelian studies, insofar as it recovers a basic, though long neglected, interpretation of Aristotle; for Schellingian studies, insofar as we will begin to acknowledge in all its weight part played by Aristotle in development of Schelling's thought. It evident that this constitutes material for a whole book, which should consider meaning of Aristotelian presences throughout Schelling's opera omnia. (8) In limited space of this article, I am going to focus on importance of Aristotle as a forerunner of positive and I will show that, because of this feature, Aristotle occupies a very special place in ideal history of as Schelling imagines it. As suggested by Wieland, it above all in last part of Schelling's work that we are bound to find most remarkable hints of Aristotle's influence on Schelling's thought. In general, we may individuate three main aspects of Schelling's approach to Aristotle: 1. Aristotle as a source for our knowledge of ancient authors; 2. Aristotle as a specific subject of inquiry: these kinds of texts can be found especially in Philosophy of Mythology, 3. Aristotle as a forerunner of Schelling's doctrines: this can be found in particular in Philosophy of Revelation. It not necessary to treat first point in detail. It known that, especially before publication of most important contemporary doxographical collections (such as Diels's and Ritter-Preller's works), (9) Aristotle was regarded as main source for knowledge of thought of so-called pre-Socratics. On this point, Schelling no exception, as clear for instance from fact that he calls Aristotle the chief source for ancient philosophy, (10) and that he employs him amply in his inquiry into dominion of ancient Greek philosophy. …" @default.
