- W2593373914 abstract "An integrated biorefinery is a processing facility that integrates biomass conversion pathways to produce value-added products. To date, various conversion pathways are available to convert biomass into numerous chemical products. Hence, a systematic methodology is required to identify the optimal chemical products from biomass and the optimal conversion pathways in producing them. In cases where desired product needs cannot be fulfilled by single component products, optimal mixture of chemicals would be required. In this respect, product and process design would be a challenging task. This work presents a systematic two-stage multi-objective optimisation approach. In the first stage, optimal mixture which possesses multiple optimised properties is designed via computer-aided molecular design (CAMD) technique. CAMD technique is a reverse engineering approach which designs molecules by using property prediction models. To design optimal mixture by using the CAMD techniques, the desired product needs are expressed in terms of physical target properties. Next, the main ingredient of the mixture is identified from the target properties. This is followed by the identification of additive component(s) to form the mixture with the main ingredient. Hence, the optimal mixture in terms of optimal target properties can be designed by mixing the identified main ingredients and additive component(s). In the second stage of the approach, optimal conversion pathways based on different optimisation objectives (highest product yield, lowest environmental impact etc.) are identified via superstructural mathematical optimisation approach. A case study on the design of bio-based fuel as a mixture of different chemical components from palm-based biomass is presented." @default.
