- W2596578106 abstract "Aim: Hydatid cyst disease is a common health problem all over the world that is caused by ecoinococci. In this study, we aimed to improve the effectiveness of percutaneous interventional treatment by investigating the factors effecting its effectiveness, complications and the factors that causing complications.. Material and Method: In our study, 255 patients who underwent percutaneous intervention with preliminary diagnosis of hydatid cyst between 2007-2012, was evaluated retrospectively. Factors that is affecting treatment effectiveness and complications was examined. The data was assessed by using SPSS 19.0. Kolmogorov Smirnov test, Chi-square test, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis tests were used. The results were evaluated in 95% confidence interval with p<0.05 significance level. Results: The mean age of the patients in the study was 47±17.6 years, while 163 cases (63.9%) were female. Cysts were most commonly located in the right lobe of the liver (76%) and were usually solitary cysts (85.1%). The cysts were usually in type 1 (91.4%) group and the content was mostly rock water (76.5%). The average volume determined in patients was 186 ml. The average amount of fluid that withdrawn was 87 ml, while the average saline given was 52 ml. Catheter application, irrigation with saline and alcohol ablation was performed 29.8%, 79.2%, and 30% of the cases respectively. Albendazole was initiated in 85.1% of cases before treatment. Cyst localization, number of cysts, and previous treatment had no effect on treatment effectiveness (p>0.05). Cyst type, cyst content, catheter application, alcohol ablation and albendazole changed the efficacy of the treatment (p>0.05). Complications developed in 6% of the patients and nausea was the most common complication. There was no significant effect of past treatments, cyst location, number of cysts, cyst type, catheter application, alcohol ablation and fluid content on complication development. (p>0.05). Bile fistula and infected cyst was observed 9% and 4.3% of patients, respectively. Cyst regression was seen 94% of patients. No recurrent lesions were found in the majority of patients (58%). The most common lesion was pseudotumor. Conclusion: As a conclusion, percutaneous treatment of hydatid cyst in appropriate patients is more effective than open surgery in terms of effectiveness, inexpense, complication risks, and hospital stay." @default.
