They are represented to give an enjoyment and to broaden the reader’s general knowledge. Novel is one of the literary works that is taken by the writer as the object of the study. The purpose of this study is to find out the answer of questions: (1) What are Sara Crewe’s sufferings?, (2) What are the causes of Sara Crewe’s sufferings? and (3) How does Sara Crewe solve her problems?. In this thesis, the writer used descriptive research design because she tried to analyze the novel descriptively by focusing on Sara Crewe’s sufferings. The approach used was objective approach, because this study focused on the literary product without considering author’s life, the background of the society and the background of the work. The object of this study was “A Little Princess” novel which was written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Moreover, the research data were derived from paragraphs, dialogues and events in the story which had relation to the Sara Crewe’s sufferings. The result of this study shows that there were six Sara Crewe’s moral sufferings. Those moral sufferings include: (1) sadness of her father’s death, (2) feeling lonely, (3) being neglected, (4) being hated by Miss Minchin, (5) being scorned by everyone and (6) being hopeless. In addition, it was found out that there were three Sara Crewe’s physical sufferings. Those physical sufferings include: (1) Sara was kept in the Attic, (2) the hunger and coldness was faced by Sara Crewe and (3) the clothes were wore by Sara Crewe. Then, Sara Crewe’s suffering was caused by her father’s tragic death, leaving no money for her. Next, the way Sara Crewe solved her sufferings was by being an errand girl and servant and becoming a beggar." @default.
