- W2597457826 abstract "One of the main objectives of this work is to present a theory based on conventional Jones and Mueller matrix algebra for analysis, interpretation and quantification of the scattering mediated SOI effects via measurable polarimetry characteristics, namely, diattenuation d (differential attenuation of orthogonal polarization states) and retardance (phase shift between orthogonal polarization states). This approach is generalization of a previously proposed dipole scattering framework and its further extension from field-based formalism to intensity-based Mueller matrix formalism. Importantly, using this theory and illustrative examples we show that the scattering mediated SOI can be significantly enhanced / optimized in plasmon resonant metal nanoparticles / nanostructures (eg. nanorods and nanospheres). In other words, each of the contributing SOI effects can be optimized/enhanced via the diattenuation and the retardance parameters. We further show that a vital role is played by the interfering neighboring modes of the nanostructures (orthogonal electric dipolar modes in rods or electric dipolar and quadrupolar modes in spheres) in controlling the SOI. The other objective of this work is to calculate the Spin Hall Shifts associated with different input polarization states (like-circular, linear etc.). For this we first calculate the different electric and magnetic fields associated with each polarization. And then we go on to calculate the Poynting vectors associated with each polarization state. Then we define formulae which give us the Spin Hall Shift.Based on different input polarization states and also the incident angles, we can have different types of shifts. These shifts can be inplane shifts or out-of-plane shifts. We have also tried to categorize these shifts in-plane shifts as Goos-Hanchen shifts and the ou-of-plane shift as the Imbert-Federov shift." @default.
