- W2597952357 abstract "The building of the Luka Celovic' Legate was built in 1930, in the zone of the former Small Green Market, which in the early 20th century began to assume the importance of the trading centre of the city. It possesses considerable architecturalurbanistic, cultural-historical and ambiance value reflected in the uses to which it was put, in the fact that it was designed by a renown architect Bogdan Nestorovic as well as in that that it is a unique example of the architecture of the interwar national style exhibited by the block of buildings of which it was a part. Although its original purpose, as well as its present purpose, namely, residential-business, is well suited to the trading character of the part of the city in which it stands, its role as a legate which is completely neglected, is of primary importance. The palace testifies to the generosity of its investor, Luka Celovic, a great benefactor. According to his wish, it was donated to the Belgrade University which, in 1947 turned the palace into a student's hall of residence with the living quarters for the employees of the Belgrade University. Within the block it belongs to, characterized by one and two storied buildings, with the exception of Vucina's house, built in the styles of academism and secession, the palace stands apart in that it was built in the national style and several stories high, thereby imposing the new standard of construction. With its prominent position facing three streets it contributes to the representative character of the ambiance which forms a part of previously protected ensemble 'Old Belgrade', at present in the process of being declared a cultural good." @default.
