- W2601922500 abstract "Women are predicted to comprise more than half of the total U.S. labor force by 2018 (U.S. Department of Labor 2013). In recent years, the nation has witnessed a significant rise in the percentage of dual-income families, as well as the number of married women entering the workforce who have young children. Given the changing demographic patterns across the United States, the growing female presence in the workforce, and shifts in societal attitudes about work and family, it is important to understand the experience of Asian American career mothers when engaging Asian American families. Results from a phenomenological study reveal the lived experiences of Asian American career mothers and challenge the stereotypes of career women. This chapter discusses the traditional view on external supportive factors for career mothers, and also introduces a groundbreaking internal growth perspective. Implications provide clinicians with a deeper look into the role of work in Asian American mothers’ lives, a shifting paradigm of family dynamics in households with a career mother, and insights into a connection-building approach in treatment with Asian American career mothers." @default.
