- W2602366827 abstract "This article presents research where empirical data was collected from a carnival allegory creator. The main purpose was making a comparative analysis between the allegories creating process and mathematical modelling, we also analyzed by a ethnomathematical outlook. Mathematical modelling is the art of elaboration a mathematical modelling; ethnomathematics is the way of knowing, explaining and understanding of several mentifacts from people on their cultural context. The methodological procedures were divided in two steps: empirical seizure and signification of data under the light of theory. The seizure , ethnography of the place and the person who creates allegories for a carnival parade. The data was collected by means of observations in loco , documents, recorded stories, pictures and interview with the carnival allegory creator, totaling four hours of recording and 20 visits. The signification implied in the organization, classification and analysis of data, comparing the process of allegories building by the allegory creator to the cognitive processes, modelling and ethnomathematics. The results showed that the allegory creator makes models of costumes as many of carnival allegories in his mind, arising from perceptions and apprehensions from the environment, that, starting from comprehension and understanding, trespasses a external model – ensemble of sub models represented by drafts, sketches and schemes those, once produced shall illustrate the carnival parade. The proceedings involved on creation of floats by the allegory creator are familiar to processes of modelling: starting from a subject-matter proposed to him, recognizes and gets acquainted to the diversity of required data, tries to understand them and formulates in a way that converges to a main model that the parade aims to bring up. Builds the allegories and costumes starting from this model and, at the conclusion, evaluates the “accuracy” of his model by the public reaction and the jury’s verdict. Model that portrays the cultural roots, the traditions. The processes analysis involved in allegory creations suggests the people who creates something, in several areas of knowledge, pervades the same stages prescribed both at modelling and ethnomathematics: beginning of a problem-situation, a question, one tries to understand first and then trying to find and propose a solution or a improvement. Searches for perceive and apprehend the data from several sources, comprehend and explain formulating a model, and significate and explicitate solving and validating the model, engendering new knowledges forward new needs imposed by the environment, being it economical, social, historical or cultural" @default.
