- W2602489762 abstract "Thirty six patients with brachial plexus injury have beenoperated on. Results were very good in the case ofinfraganglionic lesions in 15 patients. Fair and good resultswere obtained in 72% of 18 patients with neurotizationprocedure of musculocutaneous and axillary nerves. Transfer oflatissimus dorsi muscle instead of the biceps muscle wassuccessful in another t cases. In the experimental animals theacellular nerve grafts was used to restore a functionalreinnervation of the biceps brachii muscle by the motoneuronpool of the cervical spinal cord.. The musculocutaneous nervestump was sutured with acellular nerve graft, the opposite endof which was inserted into the cervical spinal cord up to theavulsed C5 ventral root. Behavioural, electrophysiological aswell as morphological methods proved the reconnection of thespinal motor neurons with the muscle end plates. Our resultsdemonstrate that the acellular nerve graft repopulated bySchwann cells migrating from the nerve stump, stimulates thespinal motoneurons to formation of axonal sprouts. Theregenerated axons are able to bridge a 4-cm long originallyacellular nerve graft and reinnervate the biceps muscle." @default.
