It enables streaming of GNSS data forstationary and mobile users by using the latest mobilecommunication technologies such as GPRS or UMTS inany area covered by a cell-phone network.A particular NTrip-delivered stream can be accessedsimultaneously by many clients using laptops, mobilephones or PDAs giving this approach enormous potentialfor supporting mass usage. Since NTrip became theleading standard protocol for GNSS data streaming, it hasbecome popular in various public and private sectors. Inthe near future, dual-frequency GNSS receivers will beavailable at a moderate price, and therefore NTrip/RTKactivities will be focused on dissemination of GNSScorrections for applications requiring greater accuracy likeintelligent vehicle navigation systems and automaticmachine guidance and control systems.One of the topics that has long been a subject of researchis improving the safety and efficiency of automobiletransportation. Because GNSS/RTK techniques have greatpotential (enabling positioning to centimeter accuracy),researchers are developing tools to put them to practicaluse for controling vehicle motion for driver assistance.The combination of high-accuracy positioning informationobtained from NTrip/RTK with high-precision INSsensors can support the latest concepts in vehicle-controlsystems (detection of relative vehicle position on ahighway or collision avoidance).In this paper, we focus on evaluating the performance ofNTrip/RTK solutions for accurate and precise carnavigation. Our approach is based on field experimentsand the analysis of both the accuracy and availability ofRTK data using mobile wireless transmissions. Weinvestigate the advantages and disadvantages of eachcomponent in the navigation system. Car experimentswere conducted on test routes under different drivingconditions. To demonstrate the versatility of mixedreceiversystems, both NovAtel and Trimble mobilereceivers were connected via a CDMA network to anNTrip broadcaster hosted by a Trimble NetR5 referencestation receiver.
