- W2605548281 abstract "In today's economy, the successful business organizations have always recognized the contributions of employees. With the advent of technology, workload for the employees working in any sector has increased and this had lead to their search for their mental peace in their lives. Apart from the leisure activities at their places, employees look forward to the peaceful instincts at their workplace that comes from within. Workplace spirituality can actually lead the employees to understand and grasp the sense of personal meaning hidden in their work, leading them towards a better performance. Krishna kumar and Neck (2002) have suggested various views regarding workplace spirituality like its different perspectives and how it can be imbibed into the organizations and what all advantages can an organization get after implementing it. They suggested the different viewpoints of workplace spirituality as the intrinsic origin views, religious views and existentialist views.Workplace spiritualityWorkplace spirituality is the recognition that employees have an life which nourishes and is nourished by meaningful work taking place in the context of a community.Mitroff and Denton (1999) postulated spirituality as a most profound sense of being joined with one's finished self and additionally with others and the universe. They contend that interconnectedness best describes it.Krishna kumar and Neck (2002) studied various perspectives of Workplace spirituality in their paper. Spirituality in general terms refers to a psychological term that means a meaningful activity that gives a blissful experience to one's mind and soul. This term actually deals with the thought within an individual about the work done by him and the reason behind doing that work.Krishna Kumar and Neck (2002) discussed different views of spirituality in their paper. The intrinsic origin view, religious view, existentialist views of spiritualityIntrinsic origin view: Guillory (2000) put forth a definition favouring the intrinsic origin views of spirituality. He defined spirituality as inner consciousness and when the spiritual self becomes active, it is beyond the existing values and beliefs of the individual.Religious views: Some researchers have their view that the workplace spirituality actually pertains to work and the act you do to achieve the goal is important but the outcomes are decided by God as supported by The Bhagavad Gita verse Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana(Menon, 1997). Religions like Buddhism, Christainity and Islam preach the human beings to work hard and devote oneself to the act of commitment towards the right deeds (Jacobson, 1983; Naylor et al., 1996 ; Yousef, 2000).Existentialist views: These views engulf the thoughts regarding one's existence in the organization. An individual thought about the meaning of his work, the reason for doing his work, the consequences or outcomes of his work and the reason behind his existence in the organization. These perspectives exist in the minds of the employees of a workplace if an employee can link spirituality to work and the workplace spirituality to him, he can achieve a sense ofhamessing his self (physical, cognitive & emotional) and get engaged in his work. Many researchers have opined that the encouraging the practice of Workplace spirituality can lead tojob as well as personal satisfaction , commitment, honesty, loyalty towards the work, happiness, involvement ultimately can result in a discretionary behaviour of employee towards the organization for its benefit. As per Krishna kumar and Neck (2002) the workplace spirituality can help organizations to get benefitted through increased honest, creativity, trust, commitment, satisfaction and performance. From the model suggested by Krishna kumar and Neck, it can be opined that the characteristics that evolves in an individual by the impact of diversity of workplace spirituality are also the characteristics arising from the individual based engagement. …" @default.
