- W2606631892 abstract "Mechanisms are learned responses, which develop unconsciously and also, are used unconsciously to meet a stressful situation. Usually during a period of stress, there is a threat to the ego or self concept of the individual. The Defence mechanism helps the individual to preserve his or her self concept and to protect him or herself from anxiety. Almost each one of us makes use of these mechanisms to a certain extent. The teacher should therefore try to understand the needs served by the use of defence mechanism and the precautions to be taken in case of their expressive use. Defence mechanisms are prevalent in our lives. They are generated by conflicts in our social or family relationships, by existential problems in our evolution towards maturity, and by academic or professional setbacks. Our worries, lack of self-confidence or confidence in others, and feelings of guilt and personal inadequacy are among the main indicators of the use of defence mechanisms. Identifying and measuring defence mechanisms are important elements in psychotherapy for dealing with personality disorders. The expression of defence mechanisms reflects the hypotheses that they obnubilate significant problems.Psychoanalysis (Freud, 1937) have tried to explain the several defence mechanism that form in the course of our development to deal with conflicting impulses and inner tensions. They are not pathological in themselves . They absolutely essential for normal living. In some cases, the use of these mechanisms may promote the mental health of the individual. Glaser and sacks ( 1973) reported that person tend to be fairly consistent in the specific use of defence mechanism. Though these mechanism may serum the purpose of alleviating anxietyand proceeding the self. They may usually in value some measure of self deception and reality distortion, and are thus maladaptive. In recent years there has been tremendous increase in researches on deprived children in India to find out the ways and means to ameliorate their lot. In a host of studies conducted in the field of deprivation. Cultural emphasis on an independent itself or an interdependent self can influence thoughts, feelings, and behaviors' (Cross & Markus, 1999).Self Expression is so called in order to mark out my subject matter from those phenomena in which words express ideas or concepts, and sentences express propositions. I take that relation to be a matter of human convention and thus no more in need of explanation than other ways in which we institute linguistic conventions. My focus is instead the various ways in which we express ourselves that may but need not depend on conventions. Objective of the studyTo find out the main andlnteractional effect of defence mechanism and background variables locale (2), gender (2) on self expression of high school students.Hypothesis of the studyH1-The scores on self expression will be no significantly interacted by locale, gender and defence mechanism for high school students.MethodPopulation- The population for the study was taken from all the high schools of Chhattisgarh coming district Raipur.ParticipantsThe sample for the study was drawn through simple random sampling technique.
