- W2607615810 abstract "When working with electrical power, knowledge is the difference between who can work on energized systems and who cannot. Employees are segregated into several categories: qualified, competent, unqualified, and non-essential personnel. A few years of experience in the electrical trade do not automatically equate to being considered competent or a qualified worker. An electrician can be qualified to complete certain electrical tasks, but not qualified to complete others. This means that the fundamental factor that determines the status as a qualified electrician depends on the work to be performed. The determining factors are technical expertise and knowledge of the electrical safe work practices necessary for the task at hand. One exception would be an apprentice or other worker who is undergoing training to become a qualified person. These employees are actually considered qualified if they are under the direct supervision of a qualified person. Electricians often complete regular safety programs, manufacturer specific training, and management training courses that provide the tradesman with certification. Joint training committees made up of local unions of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and local chapters of the National Electrical Contractors Association, individual electrical contracting companies, or local chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors and the Independent Electrical Contractors Association often sponsor certified training programs as well. Even OSHA sponsors an accredited 30-hour construction course." @default.
