- W2607861573 abstract "Starting from Wolfgang Welsche's considered thought of the way from a visual to an auditive culture, we examined this matter in the field of contemporary music. The focus here was the essence of this way regarding the distinctive nature of music. This subject, 'On the Paths of Transition From the Eye to the 'Ear of Our Thinking' Music', can be elaborated from many aspects, among which are the more general, such as social, cultural or environmental, and the more specific, such as the musical. We confined ourselves to the musical aspects, and concentrated on the two of them: the predominantly ontological aspect, which implies the relationship between the visual and the auditive in the sphere of notated music, and the 'stylistic one' - referring to the relationship between the avant-garde and postmodernism. Using examples from contemporary Serbian music, we showed that: 1) the particular relationship between the visual and the auditive, which is characteristic of a musical piece, produces a 'kind' of its own ontology that can be conceived as 'transitional'; 2) in high musical modernism, here considered in the sense of the avant-garde, the transition from the seeing to the hearing is a symptom of the vital change of both the nature of the musical object and the circumstances of notating/performing/listening to music; 3) in postmodern music, this transition carries a metaphor for communication. The inference is that there is no single nor final transition from the visual to the auditive. Ever since music began to be noted down, there has been an ontological 'game' between the seeing and the hearing, in which they have caused, supported, denied, or neglected, but have never really 'defeated' each other. Rather, this 'game' was frequent and reversible throughout the 20th century, producing the metaphorical sense of transition in its last postmodern decades. It concerns the transition to the hearing as the paradigm of communication, which is equally characteristic of and effective in the sphere of shaping music and its contemporary artistic and social reception." @default.
