- W2610367282 abstract "T he diagnosis, as well as the management of the duodenal trauma, still implies great difficulties for the surgeon, particularly due to the retroperitoneal location of the duodenum and the inexpressive clinical findings. Because of that, imaging and laboratory tests become useful tools. Frequently, the duodenal trauma is associated with injuries in other organs, such as the liver and pancreas, which lead to an expressive increase in morbidity and mortality. The management of the duodenal trauma may result in surgical treatment or not. The non-surgical treatment is used in subtle traumas without any complications. On the other hand, the surgical treatment will depend mainly on the patient’s hemodynamic stability. The importance of the time between the initial care and the diagnosis should be pointed out, as any delay on the diagnosis may worsen the prognosis. Although the duodenal trauma is uncommon, many obstacles need to be overcome in its treatment, which is aggravated when delay on its treatment exceeds more than 24 hours after the trauma" @default.
