- W2616449301 abstract "Purpose: The study sought to determine factors influencing adoption of fiber optics by telecommunication companies in Kenya Methodology: The study adopted a descriptive research. Results: Results indicated that majority of the respondents agreed that supplying commercial premises with fiber broadband will help businesses grow and benefit the local economy by facilitating flexible working patterns, enabling new startup businesses, and helping to improve the performance of existing businesses. Results indicated that cost was a key determinant in fibre optics adoption. Results indicated that majority of the respondents agreed that regulation reduces not only the investment incentives of regulated infrastructure operators but also those of potential entrant infrastructure operators who benefit from a risk-free option due to mandatory access obligations asymmetrically imposed on them, past regulation in first-generation broadband markets has clearly shaped the expectations for NGA regulations and pending decisions on NGA regulations have already led to substantial regulatory uncertainty, which constitutes another investment impediment. Results indicated security influenced adoption of fibre optics by telecommunication companies in Kenya. Finally, results also indicated that the respondents agreed that security technology providers need to prepare their technologies in order to address potential mandates for critical infrastructure protection of public cloud environments, computer viruses can proliferate through such a network and erase hard disks and intermediate files and cause system crashes and encryption, scanning files before downloading from the network, and anti-virus programs can alleviate most of the virus problem Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: It was recommended in this study that the main telecom operators need to install more fiber optic cable not only in the urban areas but should also extend it to the rural areas to enable the whole Kenyan population to enjoy the benefits that accrue to its installation." @default.
