- W2619974686 abstract "WE (Shao et al. 2014) established a new genus and described the morphology, cell division, and phylogeny of a Chinese population of a hypotrichous ciliate in this electronic-only journal. Since this work does not contain a ZooBank registration, it is not published in the sense of nomenclature (ICZN 2012, Articles 8.5, 9.11), that is, it is not a work in which a name or nomenclatural act can be made available (ICZN 1999, Article 11.1). However, such a work likely remains available as a source of published descriptions and illustrations, similar to a suppressed work (ICZN 1999, Article 8.7.1). To be available, every new name published after 1930 has to be accompanied by a description or definition that states in words characters that are purported to differentiate the taxon (ICZN 1999, Article 13.1.1) or be accompanied by a bibliographic reference to such a published statement (ICZN 1999, Article 13.1.2). We refer to Shao et al. (2014) as such a source. The present work is to ensure that the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature criteria for the availability of new names in electronic-only journals are satisfied for both taxa described below (ICZN 2012). ZooBank Registration of Present Work http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:A03A8506-38AD-4ABD-A603-9E8866405AF9 Paracladotricha n. g. Diagnosis (from Shao et al. 2014, p. 379). Hypotrichia with gonostomatid adoral zone, three frontal cirri, and one short and two long frontoventral rows, that is, lacking a paroral membrane and buccal, postoral, pretransverse ventral, and transverse cirri; one right and one left marginal row. Dorsal ciliature not lacking, but kineties 1–3 highly degraded; caudal cirri absent. Highly saline habitats (waters?). Type species.Paracladotricha salina n. sp. Etymology. See same section in Shao et al. (2014, p. 379). Species included.Paracladotricha salina n. sp. Discussion. For discussion of phylogenetic position of Paracladotricha n. g., see same section in Shao et al. (2014, p. 377). Remarks. To be available, a name or nomenclatural act must have been published (ICZN 1999, Article 11.1). Since Shao et al. (2014) does not fulfil Article 8.5.3 of the ICZN (2012), it does not constitute a published work in the sense of nomenclature (ICZN 2012, Article 9.11). Thus, the names introduced by Shao et al. (2014) are not available, similar to a nomen nudum (ICZN 1999, Glossary, p. 111). Therefore, the same name is available for the same (present case) or a different concept (for details, see ICZN 1999, p. 111), and “Paracladotricha Shao et al. 2014” (this name is disclaimed for nomenclatural purposes in the present paper; ICZN 1999, Article 8.3) is thus not the senior homonym and synonym of “Paracladotricha Shao et al., 2017” (present paper). Consequently, the genus described above has to be cited as “Paracladotricha Shao, Li, Zhang, Song & Berger, 2017” in future works (Krell 2015, p. 23). Paracladotricha salina n. sp. (Table 1 and Fig. 1A–F, 2A–F, 3A–L in Shao et al. 2014) Diagnosis (from Shao et al. 2014, p. 379). Slender, transparent Paracladotricha with narrowly rounded anterior and pointed posterior end. Body size in vivo about 50–120 × 20–35 μm. Four macronuclear nodules. Adoral zone about 37% of body length and composed of 23 membranelles on average. Three frontoventral rows, composed of 4–7 cirri (row III, distinctly shorter than adoral zone), 12–25 (row IV, almost bipolar), and 10–18 (row V, distinctly shortened posteriorly). Right marginal row consists of an average of 26 cirri, left of 18. Dorsal kineties 1–3 composed of only one or two basal body pairs each in about midbody. Type locality. Abandoned offshore mollusc-farming pond of the Red island off the mouth area of the Jiaozhou Bay of Qingdao (N36°04′, E120°18′), China (further details, see chapter materials and methods in Shao et al. 2014, p. 372). Etymology. See same section in Shao et al. (2014, p. 379). Type material. The protargol slide (registration number LLQ-2006-05-23-2C1) containing the holotype specimen (Table 1 and Fig. 1E, F in Shao et al. 2014) and a paratype slide (registration number LLQ-2006-05-23-2C2) with about 20 protargol-prepared specimens have been deposited in the Laboratory of Protozoology, Ocean University of China (OUC), Qingdao, China. Morphology ofParacladotricha salina n. sp. See same section in Shao et al. (2014, p. 373, Table 1, and Fig. 1A–F, 3A–G, L). Morphogenesis ofParacladotricha salina n. sp. See same section in Shao et al. (2014, p. 373 and Fig. 2A–F, 3H–K). GenBank accession number. FJ870085 (SSU rRNA; length 1,769 bp; GC content 45.05%). Phylogenetic analyses based on SSU rRNA gene sequences. See same section in Shao et al. (2014, p. 374 and Fig. 4). Discussion. For comparison of Paracladotricha salina n. sp. with related and similar taxa, see same section in Shao et al. (2014, p. 375). Remarks. In future, this species has to be cited “Paracladotricha salina Shao, Li, Zhang, Song & Berger, 2017” (for justification, see remarks in genus section).
