• W262012410 abstract "O'Connor, O'Connor and Wistow (1993) reported on 13 species of Irish Cynipidae of which 10 were new to Ireland. Since then, Neuroterus aprilinus (Giraud) has been added to the Irish list (O'Connor and O'Connor 1993), Both Synergus reinhardi Mayr and S. umbraculus (Olivier) were also recorded as new while Andricus lignicola (Hartig) and A. kollari (Hartig) have been found to be widely distributed (O'Connor et al. 1993a, b). In the present paper, data are presented on 29 further species. The species new to Ireland are indicated by *. The records are based on the distinctive and characteristic galls and/or the cynipid wasps. Some specimens in the National Museum were also identified and these are included. The British distribution data are from Darlington (1975), Eady and Quinlan (1963) and Redfern and Askew (1992). The following abbreviations are used in the text: PA = P. Ashe, NMI = National Museum of Ireland, JPOC = J. P. O'Connor, JMOC = J. P. and M. A. O'Connor, AWS = A, W. Stelfox and SW = S. Wistow. The material has been determined using Darlington (1975), Docters van Leeuwen (1982), Eady and Quinlan (1963) and Redfern and Askew (1992). Nomenclature follows Quinlan (1978). The English names for the galls follow Spooner and DeLarge (1993). Voucher specimens have been deposited in the National Museum of Ireland. Unless otherwise stated, the term oak refers to pedunculate oak Quercus robur L. and/or sessile oak Q. petraea (Mattuschka) Liebl. *Andricus albopunctatus (Schlechtendal) Co Cavan: Dun an Ri Forest Park, nr Kingscourt, 26 May 1994, PA, SW, JPOC, a single gall was found on a mature oak. The above record refers to the spotted bud gall which gives rise to agamic females. A. albopunctatus is common in Britain. *Andricus callidoma (Hartig) Co Kerry: Blue Pool, Killarney National Park, V9886, 18 June 1993, JPOC, a single gall was found on a mature oak. The above record refers to the stalked spindle or stalked pea gall which gives rise to agamic females. A. callidoma is local in Britain." @default.
