As a result, employees find themselves without career development guidance as to how to create a clear path for advancement within their organization. This is problematic, as retention of talent contributes to high-quality internal labor pools, which are critical for effective succession planning. To address some of these issues, we suggest applying the real options approach in conjunction with leadership skills training in order to develop a long-term, risk-distributed risk leadership pipeline that spans the organization rather than focusing on gatekeeper and executive positions.
