• W264621873 abstract "English Abstract This paper examines the issues impacting upon and changing musical scholarship and publication in contemporary Australia, viewed from three perspectives: the musical literature, the researchers and the institutional contexts. Key conclusions are that the research paradigms are blurring and are flourishing often outside of the academy; research is more collaborative and cross-disciplinary; new technologies are driving new publishing models and modes; the e-repository environment and practitioner-led research are promoting multi-dimensional research outcomes; and resource discovery and user expectations are changing. These fundamental shifts in the research landscape lead the author to consider whether international and national library and information services that support musical scholarship are appropriately adapting to meet both the challenges and opportunities confronting us. French Abstract Cet article examine les questions ayant des consequences sur le savoir musical ou qui le modifient, ainsi que sur ses publications en Australie aujourd'hui. Trois points de vues sont consideres : la litterature musicale, les chercheurs et le contexte institu tionnel. Les conclusions les plus importantes sont les suivantes : les paradigmes de la recherche sont troubles et souvent florissants en-dehors de l'institution ; La recherche fonctionne davantage par la collaboration et l'interdisciplinarite ; les nouvelles techno logies induisent de nouveaux modeles et de nouveaux modes de publication ; l'envi ronnement du depot electronique et les recherches menees par les chercheurs encouragent les resultats de recherche multidimensionnels ; enfin, la decouverte de ressources et les attentes des utilisateurs changent. Ces modifications fondamentales dans le paysage de la recherche amenent l'auteur a considerer que les services d'information ainsi que les bibliotheques qui soutiennent la recherche musicale, qu'ils soient nationaux ou internationaux, adaptent de facon appropriee a la fois les defis et les opportunites qui nous font face. German Abstract Dieser Aufsatz befasst sich mit Themen, die die Musikwissenschaft und das (musik-) wissenschaftliche Publizieren im heutigen Australien beeinflussen und nimmt sich die Perspektiven der musikwissenschaftlichen Literatur, der Wissenschaftler und der Institutionen zum Ausgangspunkt. Kernthesen sind, dass wissenschaftliche Denkmuster verwischen und sich haufig auch ausserhalb der akademischen Welt entwickeln. Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten ist mehr und mehr Teamarbeit und facherubergreifend. Neue Technologien treiben neue Publikationsmethoden aber auch -moden voran. Die elektronische Quellenumgebung und die Forschung durch Experten begunstigen mehrdimensionale Forschungsresultate; die Quellensituation und die Nutzererwartungen verandern sich permanent. Diese fundamentalen Bruche in der wissenschaftlichen Landschaft lassen die Autorin daruber nachdenken, ob internationale und nationale Bibliotheks- und Informationsdienstleistungen fur die Herausforderungen und Chancen, denen sie sich gegenuber sehen, gewappnet sind. This paper elucidates the changing research and musical contexts in which publishing about music is taking place in contemporary Australia and highlights various issues informing, impacting upon or changing the nation's musical scholarship. It addresses challenges, opportunities and issues confronting music-related publishing and the various library and information services that support this enterprise, including the RILM Abstracts of Music Literature (2). I have not sought to broaden this Australian picture to international comparisons, though many trends are likely to be familiar elsewhere: therefore, it is my hope that this paper may resonate and highlight a range of issues facing any RILM national committee.
