- W266204844 abstract "The synthesis and turnover of the plasma membrane of cells of secretory tissues is a function of cellular metabolic activity. In the hepatocyte, secretory and uptake processes occur predominantly at the blood-sinusoidal plasma membrane region. However, most liver plasma membrane fractions used in turnover studies derive mainly from the lateral and bile canalicular region and thus cannot reflect accurately the overall extent of synthesis and turnover occurring at this organelle. Proteins and glycoproteins may be inserted into one or more of the major functional domains, and the lateral relocation of plasma membrane components between domains is affected by junctions especially tight junctions. To gain further insight into the mechanism of plasma membrane assembly, the transverse organisation of the phospholipids across the bilayer of blood sinusoidal, contiguous and bile canalicular plasma membranes and microsomal membranes was determined; a complex biogenetic relationship exists between these membrane systems." @default.
