- W2671900462 abstract "The satellite telescopes requie large-diameter and high-precision primary mirrors, and carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs) are quite suitale for the mirrors because of its high rigidity, low density, low thermal deformation, and high thermal conductivity in comparison to traditional materials. Therfore, many research have been done on the primary mirrors using CFRP sandwich panels with high specific rigidity are focused on recently. For sandwich panels, honeycomb cores are frequently used due to its low density property. However, honeycomb-shaped dimples appear on the surface when CFRP skin is thin for the purpose of weight saving. On the basis of these backgrounds, supression of the dimples appearing by using plastic foam cores was studied in this study. When using the form cores, large out-of-plane deformation of sandwich panels because of moisture absorption in the cores is expected to cause. We prepared CFRP mirrors using ROHACELL(PMI foam) and aluminum honeycomb cores, and measured the surface roughness and out-of-plane deformation for the mirrors at immediate after the preparation (dry), moisture absorbed, and re-dry state." @default.
