Specifically, Cohen's ten principles include: 1) Committing fully to a definite objective: Have a clear objective; plan to achieve it; expect obstacles and plan ahead for them. 2) Seize the initiative and keep it: Dictate the terms of competition; continually look for new ways to improve service to your customers and employees. 3) Economize resources in non-critical areas to mass them in critical areas: Take resources from less-promising areas and focus them in more promising areas; accept the risks this poses. 4) Use strategic positioning: Mass resources on areas that maximize your inherent advantages, provide significant opportunity for the future, serve as a stepping stone to future success, or allow the opportunity for a decisive victory hi a market. 5) Do the unexpected: Whether it is going first with an innovative strategy or holding back to let a competitor go first (and stumble), do something the competitors are not expecting. 6) Keep things simple: Streamline organizations, actions, and lines of communication. 7) Prepare multiple, simultaneous alternatives: Answer the question, if? What if your competitor does not just roll over? What if your forecasts are off? Have fallback options ready.
