- W268690718 abstract "The development of the theory of finite Fermi systems for non-zero temperatures permits the systematic inclusion of the nucleon interaction in a statistical description of the properties of nuclear compound states. In this study we calculate the variation of the r.m.s. radius delta and of the quadrupole moment deltaQ(T) in the transition of a heavy deformed nucleus from the ground state T = 0 to an excited state Tnot =0. The systematic inclusion of strong interactions for Tnot =0 in both the particle-hole channel and in the particle-particle channel, in particular, the T-dependence of the pair correlation energy ..delta..(T), determines the behavior of delta for Tapprox.T/sub n/, the temperature corresponding to the neutron binding energy, deltaroughly-equal-0.1 F/sup 2/, to which we give special attention. The correctness of these calculations is discussed in detail. We also estimate the variation of the r.m.s. radius delta of the heated nucleus as its spin is changed; for I< or approx. =5h we have Vertical Bar delta Vertical Bar << Vertical Bar delta Vertical Bar. The delta and deltaQ(T) obtained are thoroughly discussed and compared to the results of various theoretical and experimental studies of the properties of excited states of heavy deformed nuclei." @default.
