To implement those changes, AEPCO management has aggressively turned to new communications tools and technologies that could help us develop empowered employees. With more than 35 years of electric cooperative experience, I'm confident that with most of the problems a co-op employee faces there is always someone at another electric cooperative working to solve the same challenge. Cooperative.com provides the communications link that can help us solve those problems the cooperative way -- sharing knowledge and working together. For example, just consider how Cooperative.com's search-engine enables you to quickly access information generated at across the country. Pick a topic you're interested in, say distributed generation, select the other co-ops option, and you'll get a list of articles on that topic that electric have posted to their Web sites. Without this capability, you'd have to visit each co-op's Web site one-by-one to track down any posting on the topic. No comparison! Before looking at the various resources Cooperative.com offers co-ops, I'd like to underline an important fact: Most of the content you will find on the site is generated exclusively by electric nationwide. The co-sponsoring organizations, NRECA, NRTC, CFC and Federated Insurance, have helped the tool, but its content and future evolution are squarely in the hands of electric co-op management and staff. The numbers show electric are rapidly getting their hands on the tool. Since the annual meeting in March, at which a prototype of Cooperative.com was previewed, more than 3,000 co-op employees from more than 700 electric have become registered users. That's a remarkable response, when you consider the actual launch just took place with the recent mailing of registration packets to all co-ops. There's no doubt the number of users will continue to expand, as will the volume of communications among users nationwide. It takes a little vision, but you can see we're really witnessing something historic here: the creation by electric of a dynamic electronic community (e-community for short, or virtual community). Our electric co-op e-community will be able to pool and exchange information and resources faster than ever before possible at the local, state, regional and national levels.
