• W271633165 abstract "Business Intelligence (BI) systems are becoming a common standard among organizations. Because of this, it is important to consider both the positive and the negative aspects regarding the phenomenon. Furthermore it is vital to analyze how companies utilize their BI systems and how it affects them. With this paper we strive to attain a deeper understanding of the practical implications of a BI system. In order to achieve this goal we developed our literature review where we found five key aspects of BI systems; Strategy, Economy, Reliable data and consolidation, Scalability and Flexibility and Security. Furthermore, we based the interview guide on those five aspects we previously identified and conducted four interviews with four different companies. Afterwards we compared the reviewed theory with the empirical results from our interviews to investigate similarities and differences. It showed that all of the companies were familiar with these five aspects and all of the companies argued that thanks to the BI system, they could consolidate all of their data and instead of using different systems to access data, they could easily connect to the BI system to instantly retrieve all useful information. Furthermore all companies emphasized that the BI system secured the reliability of the company data. Essentially, all of the companies stated that they were very satisfied with having a BI system within the organization. Despite the fact that it was to some extent economically demanding to implement the BI system, it was worth it in the long run." @default.
