- W2726972195 abstract "
Acts of war and terrorism are increasingly prevalent in our society. Although war and terrorism can victimize almost everyone living in a country, group, or area, children and families are those who are the most affected. UNICEF has estimated that 80% of the casualties in foreign wars were women and children. Two million children were killed and 6 million were injured or permanently disabled in war zones between 1993 and 2003. Wars are not only fought on the battlefield but also today take place in cities and towns. These wars include the use of small arms and weapons and are often fought over the control of natural resources and religion. The result is massive dislocation of children and families.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Anas Alkhatib, MD, is Chief Fellow, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee.
