One-year old chiku plants were continuously irrigated with saline water for six months. The results showed that in comparison to control, plants irrigated with 2, 4, 8 and 12 Eciw water suppressed all the studied parameters such as plant height, number of leaves, number of branches and stem girth. As regards to leaf analysis for Na+ and K+ concentration, it was observed that higher ECiw manifested higher Na+ level and lower K+. It is concluded from this study that chiku is a salt-tolerant plant species particularly at initial growth stage, and can successfully be grown with saline water having ECi up to 08 dS m-1." @default.
