- W2734222610 abstract "If saving for old age is embedded in a house, its illiquidity may prevent extracting equity for consumption. Aging may also go along with the necessity to adjust housing consumption by moving. With a bequest motive, dissaving should be slower. In this respect housing may again be particular, because of its non divisibility and of its links to family history. Co-residing or living close to a child may also change bequest behavior or ease old age consumption adjustments. We consider the many dimensions of housing consumption and saving and describe what happens after retirement, and in old age, in terms of tenure, ownership, comfort, residential mobility, living arrangements and distance to children. We use both pseudo-panel techniques and retrospective questions in the French housing surveys. The emphasis is on data, on a coherent description of what happens after 60, as preliminary steps in testing models." @default.
