- W2736593236 abstract "By correlating Kant’ s “ presuming the beginning of human history” and his anthropological insights, reflections, and lectures, we tried to point out the inner necessity of establishing morality as a persistence of a good character in the context of his understanding of human-scale living. Reason, as soon as it had achieved domination over drives after the historical turning-point, took their role upon itself, and converted life into permanent activity based upon the appetitive power (desire). What one desires is always a new and different condition, and pain instigates a desire. Determinability and life-long unachievability of the goals of a desire ensure the permanence of man’ s appetitive power and durable contentment with living ; on the other hand, they spare one from facing lifelessness in the form of boredom. The preconditions of unachievability of these goals are asceticism (which protects us from the saturation with life- pleasures) and the idealization of bliss, as a state that is completely strange to earthly living. The persistence of a good character only can fairly well guarantee the stability of the “ internal order” in man, that is generally in charge to load particular goals, namely limitations of will in consistence with principles given by reason. The perfection of man consists of building such a character, what is the source of the feeling of dignity and of an endless advancement of living, consequently, of the permanent contentment with living. The precondition of being motivated to lead exactly such life is a firm hope of realization “ the system of a proportioned bliss” , which can be ensured only by a scientific “ self-enactment into law” of reason. But, looking back, one might not say that we, along Kant’ s lines, have succeeded in avoiding states of lifelessness together with all their effects." @default.
