Subsequently, we will discuss the notion of closed-loop DBS, already defined in Chapter 5, presenting results from animal studies. Finally, we will identify some possible strategies for closing the DBS loop, discuss the challenges of migrating animal model systems to human PD patients and outline future goals of animal and human closed-loop DBS research.
