- W2740094217 abstract "Competitive protein adsorption to polymer surfaces has been investigated using radioactive labelling. Discs of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were immersed into albumin, immunoglobulin G (IgG) and human serum solutions with added I-albumin and I-IgG for 1 hour and 24 hours at 37°C. After rinsing in phosphate buffer, the radioactivity on the PET discs was measured by a gamma counter and the amount albumin and IgG adsorbed on the surfaces was determined. Comparing the adsorption of albumin and IgG from single protein solutions and human serum solutions with approximately the same concentration of albumin and IgG, the adsorption from single protein solutions is always higher. Some adsorptions of albumin and IgG to PET from single protein solutions have shown a somewhat higher adsorption than expected if considering earlier experiments performed and reported in the literature (Wagner et al., 2002; Lassen et al., 1997; Balcells et al., 1999), and this can be explained by protein aggregation and fragmentation (Holmberg et al., 2007). Figure 1 shows albumin and IgG adsorption to PET surfaces after 1 hour and 24 hours adsorption from human serum solutions with added I-albumin and I-IgG.
