- W2740133478 abstract "An impulse borehole radar (BHR) prototype system was developed for the exploration of complicated oil and gas reservoirs. In an abandoned limestone mine, the cliff wall and a metal-plate were selected as the imaging targets to evaluate the detection performance of the prototype system. The unknown fractures surrounding the borehole produced complex reflections that were not beneficial to effectively extract the targets echo and verify the detection range of the radar prototype. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) radar wave propagation models were developed for simulating the verified experiments. The fractures in the FDTD models were produced by synthetic discrete-fracture network (DFN). The simulation results objectively explained the detection range of the impulse BHR prototype can reach up to 10 m in the limestone formation, despite being filled with unknown fractures. Therefore, the numerical simulation can serve as an effective method to explain the experimental results of the impulse BHR well logging survey." @default.
