Control of geometric accuracy and the process of increasing this accuracy by means of correction are demonstrated using as an example three-axis machining centers. that assumes particular importance in control and processing of precision three-dimensional surfaces. The concept of volu- metric accuracy was first introduced into practical applications in (1). At the present time, the problem of increasing the accuracy and correction of errors in measurement and technolog- ical equipment is especially critical, since the reserves of mechano-technological capabilities for this purpose are virtually exhausted and advances in this direction are either impossible to achieve or are economically expensive. Therefore, a differ- ent method of increasing accuracy based on measurement of the geometric errors of a machine tool or plate-measuring engine, accompanied by subsequent correction of these errors, has appeared in metrology (3, 5-9). In the present article, a new approach will be developed to the correction of the geometric errors of multi-axis equip- ment, the prerequisites for the development of which were set forth in preceding studies (2, 9-14). The essential core of the present study consists in the creation of a mathematical model of the geometric error of multi-axis equipment, measurement of the components of this error by a multi-functional laser interference measurement system, reconstruction of the distribu- tion of the geometric error in the workspace (error mapping), and input of corrections into the system by a programmed numerically controlled multi-axis system based on a newly developed optimal correction strategy." @default.
