- W2741508892 abstract "The term in the title of this paper refers to two sets of phenomena: those associated with the notion of creative industries, introduced by the UK government in 1997 ; and those associated with the attempts to transplant the original model into the so-called (i.e. the central and eastern European countries and the new independent states of the former Soviet Union). The notion of creative economy, increasingly used as a description of the culturally-based economic activity in postindustrially modernized societies, potentially allows room for wider social framing of the debate. On the other hand, the term and the practice of creative industries currently being exported to transition countries, carries strong neo-liberal overtones, easily cross bread with the overall neglect of wider social agenda in the transition context. This paper examines the implications of the notions of creative industries and creative economy, and compares the socio-cultural characteristics of postindustrially modernized and transition societies. The compatibility of various types of economy and types of society is discussed in a comparative context, followed by policy framing suggestions. The Scandinavian architect development model is suggested as optimal for a potential development of both culture and economics in a transition context. Namely, this model conceives of the artist and creativity as public good, thereby helping prevent further erosion of the notion of public culture in transition context." @default.
