- W2743297021 abstract "Partial discharge (PD) plays a significant role in causing the degradation of oil-paper insulation system in transformers, while air-gap PD is considered to be one of the most common and severe PD faults. With the increasing concerns over fire safety and environment protection, biodegradable vegetable insulating oils with high flash point are considered as the potential substitutions of traditional mineral insulating oils and have been used in distribution transformers and power transformers worldwide. Therefore, it is of great significance for monitoring potential faults in vegetable oil transformers to investigate air-gap PD characteristics of vegetable oil-paper insulation system. In this paper, air-gap PD testing platform was built based on classical air-gap defect model and pulse current method. Inception characteristics of air-gap discharge in vegetable oil-paper insulation system were investigated from the perspective of mechanism, compared with those of mineral oil-paper insulation system. Results show that vegetable-oil paper insulation system possesses lower inception voltage, smaller inception field, smaller charge magnitude, earlier occurrence of signals in positive half cycle and smaller occurrence angle in the negative half cycle. Experiment results provide a reference for detecting the latent air-gap defect in vegetable oil transformers by analyzing PD signals." @default.
