- W2745543892 abstract "In this paper, pedestrian's space notation of a total area of Umeda-underground-center is investigated. The notation is identified with a map as a schematic pattern of one's behavioral environment, which is named image map. We derived, from each of 38 testees, the image-map and some comments of his behavioral act. On these maps the basic concept and their behavioral meanings are stated. They must be useful for establishment of safety scheme for an emergency in the underground passage-ways area and others. Results obtained are summarized as follows, (I) Drawn contents of maps are adherently related to the usual behavioral act of pedestrians. So the difference of image-maps from the real geographical map is remarkable. Base map for the safety scheme must consist with the public image of the space notation. (2) Generaly, drawing act of each map is started from the place or faclities through which the testee has entered to the underground-center. (3) A passage-way lains east and west means a main axis in space notation and other ways consist with branches which are derived from the axis. It is probably true that this is the basic struture. (public image) of the notation. (4) The notation of the underground area does not accord with the notation of places and facilities above the ground. It seems to be probable that the inflexible behavior in an emergency are strengthened by this isolation." @default.
