- W2748848486 abstract "Pythium insidiosum is an aquatic fungus-like organism that causes morbidity and mortality to both humans and mammals, in a disease called pythiosis. antifungal drugs have been ineffective because of the lack of ergosterol, the main antifungal drug target in its cytoplasmic membrane. Failure of treatment was challenged in search for new effective compounds extracted from medicinal plants. Our objective was to investigate inhibitory activities of 17 natural purified compounds against P. in sidiosu m using the disc diffusion method. all compounds were tested at a concentration starting from 10 µg / µL of solvent and the inhibition zones were recorded after incubation at 25 C for 3, 6 and 9 days. In this context, 3 compounds, CSN3 (1.04 mg), CSN5 (0.48 mg) and CTST1 (0.40 mg) were found to inhibit the mycelial growth of P. insidiosum with inhibition zone of 8.00, 10.00 and 12.50 mm, respectively, after incubation at 25 C for 6 days, suggesting that all active compounds have fungistatic properties. This study is the first step to the discovery of some novel natural purified compounds with inhibitory activity against P. insidiosum to be applyied for studying of the mechanism of action in vivo. However, further understanding on the effectiveness of these compounds in combination with the pathophysiology of P. insidiosum still needs to be explored. Our results may contribute to the development of some novel anti- Pythium insidiosum drugs for treatment of patient with pythiosis in the future." @default.
