- W2751380563 abstract "Pectic substances are complex, colloid carbohydrate polymers present in plant tissue and built up mostly by galacturonic acid residues. Pectin is considered as a valuable substance, applied, among others, as a thickening agent in the food industry. Pectin-rich raw material (agroindustrial crops, certain fruits, etc.) may cause difficulties in the processing technology (e.g., in production of fruit juices), therefore it is advisable to remove and/or degrade it. In some technologies pectin is present in certain coproducts or wastes formed in the processing, for example, solid agrowastes, like extracted sugar beet slices, press cakes of various fruits. Biocatalytic and membrane processes provide suitable, cost-effective, low-energy, and environmentally safe methods to solve these problems, for example, pectinase enzyme for pectin degradation can be used even in a membrane bioreactor; or membrane filtration to complete pectin extraction from waste materials." @default.
