- W2753158557 abstract "Abstract The design team must determine both the materials and the processes to be used for the part they are developing prior to starting any real detailed design efforts. This chapter reviews the background information pertaining to the process selection for the design of a plastic part. Given this process selection background, the design team is able to better assess which process is optimally suited for the part or product under consideration. Process selection can be and is based on a number of different factors and considerations, including the functional use of the part, the production capacity required for the part, the size of the part, among others. Without proper understanding of the process to be used for manufacturing, design of the part is relatively impossible. Processes covered include those used for thermoplastic materials including: injection molding, thermoforming, rotational molding, and profile extrusion. In addition, reaction injection molding and vacuum casting are examples of processes for thermosetting materials which are also discussed." @default.
