- W2753309666 abstract "We studied the thickness-dependent shift of quantum well state (QWS) peaks and their interaction with Stark-shifted image potential states (IPSs) in the $dz/dV$ spectrum of ultrathin Ag(111) islands on a Si(111)-$sqrt{3}ifmmodetimeselsetexttimesfi{}sqrt{3}text{ensuremath{-}}B$ substrate. The transmission resonance peaks for the QWSs were shifted to lower energy as the Ag island thickness increased. The shift was quantitatively explained by the quantization of the electrons in the island with the specific $mathrm{ensuremath{Gamma}}text{ensuremath{-}}L$ dispersion of Ag. In addition, two split peaks appeared around the original IPS position when the QWS and IPS had the same energy. The split peaks were attributed to the avoidance of the QWS and IPS crossing." @default.
