People are capable of debating about the and unreality of time or numbers for centuries, without ever saying what actually means to be real or unreal. The same has been the case with the mind, its origin and features. In this book we set a conceptual framework in which the issues of time and mind can be addressed in a proper way. Physical reality is a process of ceaseless becoming and vanishing. Time is not an ingredient of physical reality, but an abstract entity created by the human mind. Time does not flow: it is the artificial bank in relation to which we measure the intensity and amount of the flow (change) of physical reality. We must differentiate physical reality from the language by means of which we describe this reality. We must differentiate a formula from its interpretation: a correct formula can be interpreted in a logically inconsistent and factually wrong way. We argue that the standard discourse about the relativity of time gives a wrong interpretation of correct formulas. The second part of the book deals with the phenomenon of the conscious mind and the relationship between the mind and computational machines. Those machines have reached amazing capacities, which are constantly growing. Hence, the question arises whether those machines will soon become equal to people, and by far better than them. We argue that computational capacities are not enough for machines to become the same as people. Machines behave in the way people made them to behave: machines solve our problems, but they do not have problems. This is the essential and unbridgeable difference between sentient beings and lifeless machines." @default.
