- W2758014507 abstract "INTRODUCTIONSpiritual IntelligenceThe definition of spiritual intelligence varies according to different authors, however beliefs that remain alike is that spiritual intelligence is an 'ability' that exemplifies values, principles and qualities that facilitate manifestation of awareness, and strengthen positive growth and well-being.According to David B. King (2008), spiritual intelligence is set of mental capacities which contribute to awareness, integration, and adaptive application of nonmaterial and transcendent aspects of one's existence. He emphasizes that outcome of this inherent human ability allows individual to reflect upon existential dilemmas, engage in process of personal meaning making, and experience an unequalable awareness about oneself and other deeper states of consciousness. With regard to this, King (2008) proposed four core abilities or capacities of spiritual intelligence: Critical Existential Thinking, Personal Meaning Production, transcendental Awareness, and Conscious State Expansion. The focus of present paper is towards two specific dimensions of spiritual intelligence, namely critical existential thinking and personal meaning production along with life satisfaction.Critical Existential ThinkingAccording to King (2008), Critical Existential Thinking has been defined the capacity to critically contemplate nature of existence, reality, universe, space, time, death, and other existential or metaphysical issues. In other words, it could be understood thinking about one's own existence, understanding matters of death, reality, consciousness and alike. With thoughts regarding one's existence, spirituality and spiritual intelligence are often broader terms that get addressed a result of which existential thinking becomes an essential dimension of these constructs (Koenig, McCullough, & Larson, 2000; Matheis, Tulsky, & Matheis, 2006; Nasel, 2004; Vaughan, 2002; Wolman, 2001; Zohar & Marshall, 2000).Wolman (2001) elucidates that existential reflection is central to understanding spiritual intelligence. He characterizes spiritual intelligence human ability to ask ultimate questions about importance of life, moreover includes ability to encounter a seamless bond between each of us and world in which we live.Personal Meaning ProductionThe second dimension of this model has been defined and characterized as ability to construct personal meaning and in all physical and mental experiences, including capacity to create and master a life purpose (King, 2008). In other words, it is equivalent to attaching a reason to your existence, making most out of one's existence by finding a purpose.According to Krause (2004), meaning to one's life encompasses inherent values, sense of purpose, goals, and also reflections on past. Several authors have quoted a number of sources that influence how one derives this meaning namely, societal roles we assume (McCall & Simmons, 1966), our interpersonal relationships, fulfillment of basic needs, personal growth and achievements, leisure activities (Reker & Wong, 1988), nostalgic memories, commitment, sanguinity, religiosity (Wong, 1989), occupation, leisure, and even our role grandparents (Thompson, 1992). Research within this field hasn't been able to come to a conclusion over number of factors that influence process of meaning making, a result of which this ability has been characterized one that engages at highest level and exists differently in every individual (King, 2008).Life SatisfactionLife Satisfaction has been perceived cognitive element of subjective well being. Subjective Well Being (SWB) is characterized an individual's psychological and emotional assessments of his or her life (Diener, Lucas, and Oshi, 2002). The intellectual component alludes to what one thinks about his or her life fulfilment in global terms (life in general) and in specific terms (in particular domains of for example, work, interpersonal relationships, and so on). …" @default.
