- W2758974740 abstract "Abstract A new form of Miscanthus sinensis Andersson var. Soranovskii suitable for cultivation in the severe continental climate of Siberia is considered herein. This cultivar offers such merits as high yielding capacity with short-term vegetative phase, frost resistance, pest resistance, and unpretentiousness to soil. This is the first report investigating the chemical composition of Miscanthus sinensis grown in Siberia as a function of the plantation age during the initial five years. With advancing plantation age, the biomass yield was found to rise from 2.1 t ha−1 to 14.9 t ha−1 and cellulose content of the biomass from 42% to 54%. Cellulose specimens were derived by the nitric-acid process from five Miscanthus harvests and had the α-cellulose content of 93–95%, total non-cellulosics of at most 1.8%, and cellulose degree of polymerization ranging from 880 to 1050. Miscanthus grown in the severe continental climate of Siberia can serve as a source of high-quality cellulose. The cellulose can perfectly be utilized for the synthesis of cellulose esters and other bio-based products." @default.
